Nurturing Mind & Soul

Keep Calm and Stay Positive

I find that daily I must feed my soul. It requires a bit of reading – starting out with a dose of meditation from one of several books on my bookshelf. Lately, I’ve been meditating on verses from SACRED MOMENTS: Daily Meditations on the Virtues, by Linda Kavelin Popov.  Usually I follow this with Scripture from one of the Bibles we have in our home.  I am currently doing an online Bible Study with Good Morning Girls, reading scripture as it relates to the book ANYTHING: the prayer that unlocked my God and my Soul, by jennie allen.

I must quench my mind and soul’s thirst with words. His Word and then those by other voices. My reading area is stacked with these for the moment: THE QUEEN MUST DIE: And Other Affairs of Bees and Men {William Longgood}; WORLD WAR Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War {Max Brooks}; and LES MISERABLES {Victor Hugo}. I am anything if not eclectic in my reading habits.

Letters Start Writing

My regular chaser is to write a letter or two. There is nothing quite as satisfying to stave off a state of arid-ness as connecting with someone by snail mail.

To share with words is joyful; to receive another’s words is delicious.

Writing novel

My soul requires a lot of food. I must cook words and artfully arrange them on the virtual paper plate, so they may be chewed wholeheartedly.hands knitting

And when I have need for quiet without thought, a little texture is needed to soothe.  And music — always some music.

What does your mind and soul require for nourishment?

  1. My mind and soul also requires a lot of words, reading and writing, whether blogging or simply for my own pleasure. Lovely post and beautiful photos. Love the one of you knitting which is something that I also love doing but don’t always make the time to do as much as I’d like.

    • Suzanne, I am SO hoping to get more knitting done this fall / winter. It really is relaxing for me. I call it my “therapy.” I’m hoping to take a few classes at our local fabric shop to further my skills and try my hand at crocheting as well. 🙂
