“There are those who have the truth within them, but they tell it not in words. / In the bosom of such as these the spirit dwells in rhythmic silence…/ Let the voice within your voice speak to the ear of [the other’s ear]; / For [the other’s] soul will keep the truth of your heart as the taste of the wine is remembered / When the colour is forgotten and the vessel is no more.” ~ Kahlil Gibran, THE PROPHET
We speak to one another a lot through email, texts, and social media these days, but do you really listen to what you are reading? Do you listen to what the other person has written? You should. They are, indeed, speaking to you. They are telling you of their feelings. They are sharing their experiences. They are letting you know what is happening, or going to happen, in their every day. Are you listening as you read their voice? Or are you too busy listening to your own voice and too consumed with your own issues? When the color of their soul and the presence of their body is no longer here on earth, will you remember the taste of their being? Listen to what you read. Don’t miss the opportunity to be present in another person’s moment. Reading is fundamental; listening to what you read is exceptional.
